These people are gods to Odin as Odin is to humans. Rune King Thor’s best feat though is Killing those who sit above shadows.
And if Asgard is really the people, I wonder if he spent some actual quality time with them, that he could get back to the lightning spinning maniac we saw fight the undead on the bifrost and beat Hulk in a one-on-one. Thor's power level took a hit because Asgard was destroyed? Kinda makes sense. Was this quick little line the answer to my problem? It's repeated constantly that Hela's power grows the more she is on Asgard, but never Thor's specifically until that line. With all that said though, I was watching Ragnarok today and caught this line from Valkyrie, "Your sister, her power comes from Asgard, same as yours." This made me double take.

Plus by the final battle I expected him to be be a more direct Captain Marvel/Scarlet Witch level threat in the fight against Thanos, and he wasn't. To make it worse he had laser focus on getting a new weapon in Infinity War despite everything he had just been through. The Russos seemed to take a step back and not let him be as powerful as he became with Odin's guidance in that movie.
I was always happy with Thor's character journey through the Infinity Saga (still cry like a baby when he meets Frigga in Endgame), but when it came to his actual powerset post-Ragnarok, I was disappointed.
